Daffodil Festival – a Great Nantucket Vacation Special

Happy Springtime! Daffodil Festival 2012, which takes place on April 27 – 29, is a wonderful way to welcome springtime with the Brass Lantern Inn Nantucket vacation special!  It is a wacky, wonderful time on Nantucket Island with people wearing daffy-decorated hats and leading daffy-decorated dogs up and down Main Street admiring the 100 plus daffy-decorated antique cars, readied for the Antique Car Parade to Sconset.

The antique cars start their engines just before noon for the parade through the Old Historic District with the throngs lining Main, Centre, Broad. past North Water and down South Water streets back to Main.  The parade continues on to the Milestone Rotary and down Milestone Road to Sconset where the elaborate tailgate picnics will be laid out on the wide lawns lining Main Street in the village of Sconset.

In Town, the daffy-revelers will gather for the Daffodil Hat Pageant, the Daffy Children's Parade and the Daffy Dog Parade – and, even if you don’t get a prize, everyone feels like a  winner by just being on Nantucket for Daffodil Festival!  The Daffodil Flower Show will be open all weekend out at Bartlett’s Ocean View Farm with transportation to the farm provided by shuttles from Town.  Restaurants get into the Daffodil Festival with daffy-themed offerings and libations.

It is said that there are more that there are more than three million daffodil bulbs planted in the gardens, lawns, and byways of Nantucket Island.  Even with this year’s unseasonably mild winter – and spring bulbs blooming weeks early everywhere in the Northeast – with three million planted, there will still be 'hosts of golden daffodils' to enjoy for Daffodil Festival...and maybe even some early tulips!

‘Insure’ You Enjoy Your Nantucket Island Vacation

Note to self when planning vacation and travel - think about travel insurance!

Anticipating your Nantucket vacation is a great way to while away the late winter days! But, sometimes, 'life' gets in the way of the most elaborate plans.

You have done your research, chosen (and paid for) the best hotel or inn on Nantucket Island for your vacation, booked (and paid for) your transportation (planes, boats and, maybe, trains) and are counting the weeks until you can take off for your perfect getaway…And then, just before you leave, 'life' gets in the way!

It may be an unexpected deadline for a major project at work, or, surprise, your child’s team makes the playoffs, or, you receive an unplanned visit from an old high school chum – or, possibly, a minor accident, or something more dire…and it is too late to cancel your reservations and receive a refund.

Or, maybe you are on Nantucket, having a wonderful time, and something happens that requires that you leave NOW – and forfeit your payment and the remainder of your vacation.

Or, your plane is late and you miss your connection which means you miss the last boat to Nantucket, have to pay for the unplanned night in Hyannis and forfeit the first day of your Nantucket holiday.

Rounding Brant Point
Islands are remote and, by definition, surrounded by water and require boats and planes for transportation - part of the charm of Nantucket Island. And, because Nantucket is an island, hotels and inns have stringent cancellation policies which require anywhere from 10 to 30 – or even 45 - days notice of cancellation in order to receive a refund of your deposit.  In addition, refunds are not available for either late arrivals or early departures.  So, when 'life' intervenes with your best laid vacation plans, it is a real problem, unplanned, unavoidable and nobody's fault.

So, what to do??  Think about travel insurance!

Travel insurance may be purchased easily online to cover travel delays, trip interruption, late arrivals and early departures - even medical emergencies.

Guests who book online at the Brass Lantern Inn have the option to purchase travel insurance from a third party insurance provider for just 5.5% of the reservation cost – not a lot of money when you consider how ‘life’ might intervene on the most perfect Nantucket holiday!
